Oenothera-Pyrola

Distribution: E and SE Europe, Caucasus; steppes.

Perennial 20-60 cm tall. Leaves cut into narrow, filiform or linear lobes. Flowers 30-80 mm diameter, solitary, terminal, dark red. Fl. IV-V.

Dwarf shrub 6-10 cm tall. Flowers to 25 mm long, pale violet with white throat. Fl. summer.

 

Zwergstrauch 6-10 cm hoch. Blumen bis 25 mm lang, hellviolett mit weißem Hals. Blütezeit Sommer.

Distribution: from Washington to N California; cliffs, ledges, rocky slopes.

Plant dense mats forming up to 10 cm in tall. Leaves thick, firm, subroud to obovate, glaucous, serrulate. Flowers 25-36 mm long, pink, reddish, pink-lavender or rose-purple. Fl. VI-VII.

Distribution: Pyrenees, Alps, Carpathians, 1700-3400 m above sea level; limestone screes and rocks. 

Dense-tufted or cushion-forming perennial 2-8 cm high. Stems procumbent. Leaves in many, compact rosettes, gray-green or pale green. Inflorescence up to 3 cm long, 3-5-flowered. Flowers 6-8 mm diameter, pink, lavender-violet or lily, rarely white. Fl. V-VI.

 

Geographische Verbreitung: Pyrenäen, Alpen, Karpaten, 1700-3400 m über dem Meeresspiegel, kalksteinhaltige Geröllhalden und Felsen.

Kissenbildende Staude 2-8 cm hoch. Blätter in vielen, kompakten Rosetten, grau-grün oder hellgrün. Blütenstand bis zu 3 cm lang, 3-5-blütig. Blumen 6-8 mm Durchmesser, rosa, lilaviolett oder lila, selten weiß. Blütezeit V-VI.

Distribution: SW and SE Alps, N Apennines, 1200-3150 m; calcareous and dolomite rocks and scree.

Perennial tufted silvery-gray densely hairy 2-5 cm tall. Leaves always with 3 leaflets. Flowers 1-2, 20-26 mm across, pale rose to dark rose. Filaments and stigmas purple red. Fl. V-VII.

 

Geographische Verbreitung: SW und SE Alpen, N Apenninen, 1200-3150 m; Kalk-und Dolomitfelsen und Geröll.

 

Silbrig-graue, dicht behaarte Staude 2-5 cm hoch. Blätter immer mit drei Blättchen. Blumen 1-2, 20-26 mm breit, hell-bis dunkelrosa. Filamente und Narben lilarot. Blütezeit V-VII.

Distribution: S Alps.

 

Perennial up to 5 cm tall. Flowers in umbel, 8-10 mm diameter, yellow, V-VI.

Distribution: disjunctive in mountains in area from Austria to C formerly Jugoslavia, 2000-3100 m; moist soil over acidic base.  

Tufted perennial. Leaves in rosette. Scapes 1.5-9 cm long. Umbels 1-8-flowered, atop the scapes. Flowers deep violet, whitish in throat, with darker area around throat, fragrant. Fl. V-VI. Not easy in culture!
